What is a Gold Star Family Member?
“A wife, husband, mother, father, stepmother, stepfather, parent through adoption, foster parents who stand or stood in loco parentis, children, stepchildren, children through adoption, brothers, sisters, half brothers, half sisters, aunts, uncles, grandchildren and grandparents of a member of the Armed Forces of the United States that sacrificed their life for our way of life and the American flag under which they served.”
From Concept to Reality
The projects currently include the creation and implementation of Gold Star Families Memorial Monuments throughout the country. Soon there will be one of these Monuments in each State of the US. The original monument was established at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, in Dunbar, WV in 2013. Later, a second Gold Star Families Memorial Monument was dedicated on September 21, 2014 in Valley Forge, PA
More recently, Picture This On Granite has helped design, build and install a fourth and fifth Gold Star Families Memorial Monument in Tampa, FL and Fairfield, OH. Both have been officially unveiled during Memorial Day week-end 2015.
Solid Black PG Certified® granite tablets
For these monuments, Picture This On Granite helped modify two different formats: the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument located in Tampa, FL has four PG Certified Premium Black Granite tablets and the second, located in Fairfield, OH is a smaller version of the monument with two PG Premium Black Granite tablets.
On both monuments, images representing sacrifice, honor, family and tribute have been PGHD® laser etched onto the granite, creating an everlasting and beautiful tribute to our soldiers and their families. Also, bronze color cast aluminium stars and lettering have been pined to the granite tablets. This different material has the same traditional beauty as bronze but will not tarnish over time, and will not get stolen like bronze often does. Finally, another design element that makes these monuments standout is the life-size saluting soldier cut-out.
May these monuments be used to educate our communities and honor our soldiers and their families for generations to come.
